A few of my favourite images from our recent trip down the California coast. We started in San Fransisco where we shamelessly did just about every single thing that a tourist would be expected to do, mixed in with a couple of picnics (with take away from the famous Boudin Bakery) at the beach. We ended at Ghiradelli for an ice cream sundae for three out of the three nights we were there and listened to the buskers in Ghiradelli Square. Fuelled by tea and pastries we hit the road. It took us a few days of driving (with lots of stops along the way to marvel at the rocky cliffs and open sea) which turned out to be way smoother than I had anticipated. One of my favourite things was a beach where you can watch the elephant seals sun bathe. So jiggly. We also stopped at a few famously kitschy places, including the Santa Monica Pier, before finally reaching our end goal. Disneyland. Oh, Disneyland, what can I say about you that hasn't been said already? You are magical. Getting to the park at opening isn't too hard when you have a little person (we're used to being up and ready to the tackle the day pretty early) and, let me tell you, it was well worth it! We basically walked on to every single attraction that we wanted to go on and spent the rest of the time enjoying all of the prettiness that often gets overlooked. I've been asked why we do things like this with such a small guy. They say that Oliver won't remember, and they're probably right. He won't remember the things that he saw or the places that he went, but I am confident that what he will remember is the feeling of being a family. The experience of experiencing something new and being together will, in some way, stay with him. Besides, Colin and I still know how to have a good time. We can't imagine anything better than adventuring with our tiniest amigo. Before tackling the drive, we stopped to visit a friend who lives on the beach in Half Moon Bay. She is an incredible photographer and she took some of my favourite pictures of us (some seen below) as we soaked up the beauty of the sand dunes and watched the dolphins (!!!) swimming in what was practically her back yard. Heading that way? Check out her website! Then it was off on our grand adventure. 12 hours of driving.
