Welcome

Hi there. You may be a little overwhelmed with all of the wedding information out there. Don’t worry - you’re not alone. I’m here to help. The information in this guide is meant to help you through (almost) all of your photography related questions so that you can relax and enjoy your day knowing that you are getting next level photographs. The only rule is that there are no rules. Your wedding day isn’t meant to fit into any box. Not a fan of cake? Why not an ice cream truck? Do what feels right for you and your partner. I promise, you won’t regret it.

getting ready

Take the space into consideration. Choose an area with plenty of natural light (that soft, natural window light is 100% flattering) and minimal clutter (like, zero clutter).

Gather all of your details before the day begins so that I can photograph them quickly. This allows me to spend more time focusing on the spontaneous moments when everyone is together. Here is a list to jog some ideas - rings, jewelry, hair pieces, flowers, shoes, socks, cufflinks, letters, pictures, gifts, cultural items, invitations, programs, printed pieces. Any unique items that you have put thought into.

Think about getting a wooden hanger for your dress. They photograph well and are a great keepsake.

the ceremony

Time to make it official. Yay! If you are getting married outdoors, I suggest avoiding a mid day ceremony. The mid-day sun is unforgiving. Squinty eyes. Harsh shadows. Heat. An early evening ceremony with romantic, soft, golden light - how beautiful would that be? Consider doing a first look to make this a possibility and help your day flow easily. More on first looks later.

Going unplugged
Think about what you want to see when you walk down the aisle toward your future partner. A sea of iPhones? I suspect that you want to see the faces of your loved ones - with you. In the moment. Don’t be afraid to have the officiant let your guests know that the photographer will be sharing the professional images with them so that they can be fully present.

TIMELINES

I’d love to work with you to create a timeline that works best for your unique day, tailored to you, your venues and your date, but here are a few examples of what a timeline could look like in order to maximize your photos. Keep in mind the season and the lighting at that time of year.

What is a first look? It’s an intimate moment between you and your soon-to-be spouse, where you can see each other, hold hands, and breathe before the ceremony. It’s a beautiful thing.

reception

In case you haven’t noticed… lighting is a big deal to me. There are definitely times to use a flash, but I want to capture the ambiance of your reception, how it looked and, more importantly, how it felt. For that reason, I will use the naturally available light as often as possible.

How can you help? Light up your space with beautiful, warm, natural glow. Think bistro lights and candles. All of the candles!

Just because something has always been done a certain way, doesn’t mean it’s right for you. Break traditions, create new ones, and make it your own. I can’t wait to capture it all for you!

frequently asked questions

Q: On average, how many images do you take at a wedding?
A: I don’t set a goal or a limit on the number of images that I take because each event is unique. On average, I tend to deliver about 50-60 images per hour. I take as many images as needed to tell the story of your day poignantly and effectively.

Q: Why do most of your collections include an engagement session?
A: I feel like this is a great way to get to know each other. We should feel like old friends on your wedding day.

Q: What kind of files are provided?
A: I provide all of the edited images in a private online gallery. These are high resolution jpeg files that are formatted to print up to the maximum size available. All images will be provided in colour and black & white.

Q: Can we order our own prints?
A: You can conveniently order prints directly from your gallery. Each print will be created by a trusted Canadian professional photo lab, ensuring the finest quality, and delivered straight to your doorstep.

Q: What equipment do you use?
A: I use all of the latest canon equipment. I always carry the Canon R6, 5D mark iv, the 5D mark iii, 35mm lens and the 85mm lens among other items. All of my equipment has a backup in the rare event that anything should happen to any of my equipment.

Q: If things are running behind, will you stay? Is there an additional charge?
A: I always ask if you’d like me to stay longer, especially if you have a grand exit planned. I charge regular hourly rates if you decide that you’d like additional hours on or before the wedding date.

Q: How do we reserve our wedding date?
A: A 50% deposit and signed contract is required in order to secure your date. Two weeks prior to your wedding, the remainder of the balance is due. I will invoice you and you can pay via credit card.

Q: Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable?
A: Absolutely. I always have a back up in place in case of emergencies. I have a number of photographers that I admire and respect that I can count on if I get struck by lightning.

Q: Will you retouch our images?
A: Less is more. I’m more concerned with what is going on in the photo than what I can do to the photo. I do not airbrush the images, however, I can get rid of that pesky zit or a trashcan in the background in any of your favourite images. All of the images that you receive will be edited to have a consistent, natural look. I edit each photo individually to provide consistency.

Q: What is your approach on the wedding day?
A: I strive to document the pretty details, the organic moments, and the quiet beauty of your wedding day. I anticipate, read the vibe, and let moments happen. You won’t find me with huge lighting equipment, clumsy bags or stands. I like to blend in and be un-obtrusive. However, I direct and step in when I need to - moving your dress or invitations to be composed artfully or directing during portraits for luminous natural light and flattering angles.

Q: How can we help you to prepare for our day?
A: I am available to chat any time. In addition, I will send you a detailed questionnaire that will help me organize myself for the big day so that I don’t miss a single thing.

I know that you have unlimited options when it comes to choosing a photographer. It means the world that you have considered me to document this special time in your life.

Much love, Crystal
