Planning Your Session
MATERNITY + NEWBORN
MATERNITY + NEWBORN
This is such a special time and I’m sure you’ve got a lot on your mind. Don’t worry - when it comes to photographing these milestones (so that you can remember them forever and ever) I am here to help! The information in this guide is meant to help you through (almost) all of your photography related questions so that you can relax. If you still have questions afterwards, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
-typically one hour
-60+ edited, high resolution images (in both colour and black & white)
-a beautiful private online gallery + print shop
2 complete sessions documenting this incredible transition from pregnancy to parenthood.
I will shoot until I know I have what I need. I don’t put a time limit on newborn sessions in particular because, as a mama myself, I understand that babies operate on their own schedules. Typically, sessions don’t go over an hour but if baby is particularly hungry on the day of our session - take a feeding break. I want you and baby to enjoy our time together.
Whether it's your favourite beach or your own backyard, choosing a location that is meaningful to you can add personality to your images. Or, perhaps you (like me) just adore the beauty of the West Coast and envision capturing your pregnancy against the stunning backdrop of BC. I have put together a locations guide with plenty of options, city by city, as well as a few seasonal options. For your convenience, I’m based in Coquitlam and can offer greater scheduling flexibility for locations nearby.
Consider having your hair and makeup done professionally for your maternity photos. Treat yo self mama!
I find that the late 7, early 8 month mark is a great time for maternity photos. Baby belly is nice and round, but mama is able to move around comfortably.
Yes and no. I will definitely give you plenty of guidance! I’ll direct you in a way that creates potential for ‘a moment’ and allows you to be free, to be yourself and have fun.
Wear something that makes you feel comfortable and confident! Dress to complement the environment—light fabrics for a beach setting, soft cozy textures at home. Earth tones, patterns, and accessories photograph really well. Want to try different looks? Outfit changes are a big yes.
I suggest doing newborn sessions in the comfort of your own home. Those first weeks of settling in with your new baby are so special. This is the perfect place to capture your beautiful baby’s newness in a comfortable, warm environment.
The earlier the better. Your little one is growing by the day. Include me on your friends and family birth announcement list. Email me and we will schedule our session ASAP, based on how you are feeling. I suggest within the first three weeks when baby is extra snuggly and squishy.
All we will need is a baby with a full tummy and a warm space. Declutter any areas that you think have nice light and give us space to play. I suggest the living room, your bedroom and a nursery (if you have one). Warm blankets, a light bassinet, or accessories that make you smile (all of the hair bows) are fantastic.
The focus will be on baby but mom, dad, siblings, and pets are all encouraged to participate. Grandparents are also welcome to get involved. This is a special time for everyone.
On average, How many images will we receive from our session?
I don’t set a goal or a limit on the number of images I take per session because each one is unique. On average, I tend to deliver about 50+. I take as many images as needed to tell the story of your session poignantly and effectively.
